LENT

A small pile of black powder on a white surface with a white background.

Jesus' temptation reveals the way in which the Son of God is Messiah, contrary to the way Satan proposes to him and the way men wish to attribute to him. This is why Christ vanquished the Tempter for us: "For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sinning." By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert.

- The Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 540

FREE WHEELCHAIR MISSION

This Lenten Season, St. Timothy is partnering once again with Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM) to provide wheelchairs to people in underdeveloped areas. For just $96, a wheelchair can be built, shipped, and delivered across the world, lifting someone up off the ground and transforming a life for good. No donation is too small, or too large and can make a world of difference. Last Lent we raised $40,650, equating to 423 wheelchairs. This year, help us meet our goal of 500 wheelchairs!

Ways to give:

1) Fill up a Free Wheelchair Mission coin box and return it to the Front Office

2) Write a check to “Free Wheelchair Mission” or bring cash to the Front Office

3) Visit st-timsrc.org/wheelchair to securely give online.

Ash Wednesday is on Wednesday, February 18th. This is a day of both prayer and fasting. As such, all Catholics without a medical impediment from age 18 until age 59 are to fast (one full meal and two smaller meals that do not equal a full meal) and all Catholics without a medical impediment 14 years and older are to abstain from meat.

Prayer Service with Distribution of Ashes:

12:15 pm

Mass with Distribution of Ashes:

8:30 am, 5 pm, and 7 pm (Spanish)

ASH WEDNESDAY & FASTING

Join us on Tuesday, February 24th, for a powerful one-day Lenten mission led by Father Paul de Soza from Our Lady Queen of Angels. This event, which is entitled "Transfigured for Easter: Our Lenten Journey to Glory," will draw from the Transfiguration of Jesus to reveal how the holy season of Lent renews and reshapes our souls for Easter joy. Attend one of two sessions to fit your schedule: 9:15 AM or 7:00 PM. Childcare is available for both times; to reserve a childcare spot, contact Andrea Marian at amarian@st-timsrc.org. All are warmly welcome to this event, so bring a friend or family member. Come experience the transformative power of Lent's call to glory!

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: FR. PAUL DE SOZA

I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I joined a religious order in Argentina right after high school. I was blessed to spend 3 years studying for my priesthood in Rome, where I became a Deacon. I was ordained a priest in 2005 in Argentina. After spending three years there, I was sent to a House of Formation in Michigan to guide and serve young men in their journey to the priesthood. After 11 years in Michigan, I served in two high schools in the Diocese of San Diego: Cathedral Catholic and Mater Dei. I cherished my time working with high schoolers. Their lively faith was contagious! I love to hike, camp, backpack, and especially ride my bicycle. I also like brewing coffee.

I treasure time praying before the Blessed Sacrament; I love the Rosary and spiritual reading. I enjoy listening to music both classical, particularly operas, and modern. I was recently incardinated in the Diocese of Orange and assigned to Our Lady Queen of Angels as a Parochial Vicar. I look forward to meeting all of you!
